Devara 2 Effectively Shelved as NTR, Koratala Siva Move to Different Projects
Industry insiders confirm sequel unlikely before 2027 as both hero and director commit elsewhere

The much-anticipated Devara 2 has hit a roadblock that industry veterans saw coming from miles away. What started as whispers in trade circles has now crystallized into reality. NTR and Koratala Siva are both moving on to different commitments, effectively putting the sequel on an indefinite hold.
The writing was on the wall even before the first film's release. While Devara delivered a respectable theatrical run and showcased NTR in vintage form, the lukewarm response to Koratala's direction and screenplay created an uncomfortable truth nobody wanted to acknowledge publicly. The film's failure to make significant inroads in non-Telugu markets further complicated the sequel's commercial viability.
What's particularly telling is how both protagonists are handling their exit strategy. NTR, ever the diplomat, hasn't openly expressed disinterest in the sequel: maintaining his friendship with Koratala while quietly pivoting toward more promising projects. His upcoming collaboration with Prashanth Neel represents exactly the kind of pan-Indian ambition that Devara couldn't fulfill. Add to that his commitments with Trivikram Srinivas and Nelson Dilipkumar, plus the lucrative Hindi market opportunities post-War 2, and the picture becomes clear.
Koratala's decision to sign with Balakrishna provides the clearest indication that Devara 2 won't materialize anytime soon. Directors don't abandon ready sequels for new projects unless something fundamental has shifted. The commercial mathematics simply don't add up: with the sequel likely requiring a ₹400-450 crore budget and non-theatrical values declining, the risk-reward equation looks unappealing.
This isn't technically a cancellation, but rather a commercial pause that could stretch indefinitely. In today's market, where audiences expect sequels within short gaps, as demonstrated by the Pushpa franchise, waiting years kills momentum. By the time both stars' calendars align again, the Devara brand may have lost its relevance entirely.
For NTR, this represents smart career management. At his current peak, why return to a franchise that showed limited growth potential when fresher, more exciting collaborations await?
