Folk Singer Mangli Files Counter-Complaint Against Lawyer in Escalating Legal Battle
Popular singer alleges extortion and threats after advocate accuses her of Rs 10 crore investment fraud

The legal troubles surrounding popular Telugu folk singer Mangli have taken a dramatic turn, with both parties now trading serious allegations in what's becoming one of the industry's most contentious disputes.
Mangli, whose real name is Satyavathi Mudavath, approached Panjagutta Police Station on Sunday to file a counter-complaint against advocate Singapogu Subbu. This comes just a day after Subbu lodged his own complaint accusing the Bigg Boss Telugu star of orchestrating a Rs 10 crore investment fraud through microfinance schemes.
The singer's allegations paint a disturbing picture of alleged extortion. She claims Subbu approached her on March 22, introduced himself as a lawyer, and demanded Rs 10 lakh in exchange for removing certain videos about her from social media platforms. When she refused, Mangli alleges that Subbu and his associates resorted to abusive language and threats to damage her reputation online.
Subbu, who claims to represent nearly 100 investors, alleges that people were induced to invest money with promises of high returns through film financing and related business activities. According to his complaint, neither the promised returns nor the original investments were repaid, and he was threatened when he questioned the repayment.
The emotional toll on Mangli was evident during her media interaction on Sunday, where she broke down while denying the fraud allegations. "I worked hard to go to Bigg Boss and become famous," she said, characterizing the lawyer's claims as harassment through false allegations.
This case highlights the growing scrutiny around celebrity investment schemes in Telugu cinema, particularly as stars leverage their fame for business ventures. Police have registered cases under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including sections related to criminal intimidation and cheating, indicating they're taking both sets of allegations seriously.
For Mangli, who rose from folk singing to mainstream recognition through Bigg Boss Telugu, this legal battle could significantly impact her carefully built career. The outcome will likely set important precedents for how celebrity-backed investment disputes are handled in the industry.
