Malayalam Director Ranjith Balakrishnan Arrested in Sexual Assault Case

The Malayalam film industry finds itself in yet another controversy as director Ranjith Balakrishnan was arrested by Ernakulam Central police on charges of sexual assault. The arrest marks a dramatic escalation in the ongoing reckoning that has gripped Mollywood following the explosive Hema Committee Report.

Balakrishnan, a seasoned filmmaker known for his work across Malayalam cinema, was taken into custody in Idukki while traveling for a scheduled event. The arrest stems from a complaint filed by a young actress who alleged that the director behaved inappropriately with her during a film shoot.

According to the complaint, Balakrishnan summoned the actress to his caravan during production and engaged in indecent behavior with clear sexual intent. The actress immediately vacated the premises and reported the incident to the film's Internal Complaints Committee. Following preliminary investigations, the ICC forwarded the matter to Kerala police, who recorded the victim's statement before proceeding with the arrest.
