Suriya's Karuppu locks May 14 summer release date as Veerabhadrudu in Telugu

The summer box office is about to get a massive surge of energy. Suriya's much-awaited mass entertainer Karuppu will hit theatres on May 14, with the Telugu version carrying the powerful title Veerabhadrudu. This strategic summer placement gives the film a clear runway to dominate during the crucial holiday period.

The newly released poster tells the complete story of what audiences can expect. Suriya plays a lawyer named Saravanan, his real name, who transforms into something far more formidable. Clad in traditional black shirt and lungi, gripping a menacing blade with tilaka marking his forehead, he cuts an imposing figure against a backdrop of temple chariots and celebrating crowds. This is clearly RJ Balaji's attempt to bring back grounded commercial entertainment while delivering mass appeal.

What makes this project particularly special is the reunion of Suriya and Trisha after their last collaboration in 2005's Aaru. Twenty years is a long gap in cinema, and their on-screen chemistry was always electric. Their previous collaborations include the hit Mounam Pesiyadhe and Mani Ratnam's ensemble Aayutha Ezhuthu, so expectations are naturally sky-high.

Director RJ Balaji has been refreshingly candid about his approach. With no major releases scheduled for that particular week and long summer holidays working in its favour, Veerabhadrudu is positioned for a strong box-office advantage.
