Three Big Names Said No to Dhurandhar's Rehman Dakait. They're Regretting It Now

The biggest casting revelation of the year has just dropped, and it's bound to leave some actors rethinking their choices. Casting director Mukesh Chhabra has sparked fresh curiosity around Dhurandhar with his latest revelation about the casting process. In a recent interaction, he shared that three actors had rejected the role of Rehman Dakait, which was eventually played by Akshaye Khanna.

The irony is delicious, considering Dhurandhar: The Revenge has taken the box office by storm, collecting over Rs 1,500 crore worldwide since its release on March 19, 2026. That's the kind of number that haunts you when you've passed on being part of cinema history.

Interestingly, Mukesh revealed that one of those actors was from the South, while the other two were from Bollywood. He refrained from naming them but mentioned that the actors cited weird logic, saying the film had an ensemble cast and that it was primarily a Ranveer Singh film.

Here's what those actors missed: Akshaye Khanna's Rehman Dakait didn't just become a character: he became a cultural phenomenon. It's also a victory lap for one of Bollywood's most talked-about supporting turns: Akshaye Khanna's chilling, meme-generating portrayal of Rehman Dakait, the ruthless Lyari ganglord. The man stole scenes from Ranveer Singh himself, which is no small feat.

The casting process itself was mammoth. The casting director also revealed that over 400 roles were cast for the movie over the course of almost two years. When you're dealing with a franchise that currently stands at a massive 2384.33 crore worldwide across two films, every decision matters.

What's particularly telling is how director Aditya Dhar handled the rejections. Director Aditya Dhar, however, refused to dwell on the setbacks. "Aditya moves on from negativity quickly," Chhabra noted, underscoring the filmmaker's calm confidence and big-picture vision.

The Dhurandhar franchise has rewritten the rules of ensemble filmmaking in Indian cinema. It is now the only Franchise in Indian history where every single installment has crossed the 500 crore mark in its home language. Those three actors who worried about sharing screen space with Ranveer Singh missed out on being part of something unprecedented.

Sometimes in this industry, the biggest 'no' becomes the loudest 'told you so.' As Chhabra himself noted about those rejections: "I am sure they regret it today."
