Venkatesh Maha's Rao Bahadur: Five Years in the Making, Five Hours in Makeup

The Telugu film industry loves a good comeback story, and Venkatesh Maha's journey with Rao Bahadur reads like one for the ages. After spending five exhausting years perfecting the script, the C/o Kancharapalem director nearly shelved what could become his magnum opus: until a phone call from M.M. Keeravani changed everything.

"I gave 70 narrations of this story to different people," Maha revealed at the recent song launch of 'O Sundari.' Just when he was ready to move on, Keeravani's encouragement reignited his passion, followed by unwavering support from what he calls his "five Avengers": producers Anurag Reddy, Sharath, Chinta Gopalakrishna Reddy, and the powerhouse duo of Namrata and Mahesh Babu, who's presenting the film.

The real hero of this story, however, might be Satya Dev's dedication. The actor endured a punishing 85-day schedule that would test any performer's limits: waking up at 3:30 AM daily for five hours of makeup, shooting until 2 AM the next morning. "No one recognized me on set. I behaved like the character even off-camera," Satya Dev shared, highlighting the complete physical and emotional transformation this period drama demanded.

This isn't just another collaboration between the actor-director duo who've clearly found their creative rhythm. Maha's confidence is palpable as he boldly claims Rao Bahadur will deliver "10 times more impact than C/o Kancharapalem": a statement that raises the bar considerably, given his debut's critical acclaim and cult following.

With Satya Dev comparing the film's scale to Baahubali and Avatar, and producers positioning it as worthy of taking a Mahesh Babu production to global audiences, Rao Bahadur appears poised to be more than just another period drama. In an industry increasingly focused on pan-India appeal, this passion project that almost never happened might just prove that sometimes the best stories are worth the longest waits.
